MANILA – A new work from acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza has made it to the Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections film series co-produced by the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Japan Foundation Asia Center.
Mendoza’s “Shiniuma Dead Horse,” which stars Lou Veloso, tells the story of an illegal Filipino immigrant in Japan who returns to his homeland for the first time in decades after being deported.
The two other directors included in the project are Isao Yukisada from Japan (“Pigeon”) and Sotho Kulikar from Cambodia (“Beyond the Bridge”).
According to a statement, the project aims to bring together "three talented directors to co-create a series of omnibus films with a common theme."
It highlights the theme of living in Asia “with three episodes that depict the lives of characters who journey between Japan and Cambodia, the Philippines and Malaysia.”
The Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections will have its world premiere on October 26 at the 29th edition of the TIFF.
Following the screening in Japan, “Shiniuma Dead Horse” will be shown in the international film festival circuit.
