MANILA, Philippines -- The identity of her real parents came as a curiosity to actress Lotlot de Leon at an early age. It was in 2009 when she finally came face to face with her biological father.
"Ever since I was a kid, finding out that I was an adopted child, I already had this curiosity of finding who my biological parents were," de Leon told "Showbiz Inside Report" in an interview aired on Saturday.
The actress is the daughter of veteran actress Nora Aunor and dramatic actor Christopher de Leon by adoption.
According to the Kapamilya actress, she was seven years old when she was made aware of her being an adopted child.
"Siguro dahil lagi kong naririnig, 'Ay, 'yan ba 'yung ampon ni Nora? Ah, si Ian (de Leon) 'yung anak,'" de Leon said.
"Siguro dahil doon, kahit siguro ayaw sa 'kin sabihin talaga ng mommy, parang walang choice but to tell me," she added.
Although Aunor had assured her of equal love among her siblings regardless of a number of them being adopted, de Leon admitted she still felt "hurt" learning of her identity.
"Ang mommy, kung anong trato at pagmamahal na binibigay niya kay Ian (her biological son), ganoon din sa amin," she said.
"Hindi ko man siya naiintindihan nung mga panahon na 'yun, nung oras na sinasabi ng mommy ko, alam ko masakit," she added.
Her curiosity about her parents' identity would stay with de Leon well after she started to have a family of her own.
In 2006, through the internet, she sought communication with her father.
"'Yung biological mother ko, binanggit sa 'kin 'yung pangalan niya. Ini-Google ko, hinanap ko," she said.
"Ini-message ko siya, in-e-mail ko siya, sinabi ko, nagpakilala ako, 'Ako si Lotlot de leon, anak ni Nora Aunor. Ito po ang totoong pangalan ko nung bata ako at nung mother ko. Kayo po ba 'yung tatay ko,'" she added.
To her surprise, the man readily admitted being her biological father.
"Sinagot niya ako, yes. So that was a shock for me, kasi hindi ko naman ine-expect na aamin niya sa 'kin. Nagpaliwanag siya kung ano nangyari," she said.
It took three years before de Leon and her real father had a chance to meet face to face. Their first meeting, the actress recalled, erased any doubts on the man's identity. It would also serve to finally satisfy the "curiosity" that comes to any adopted child, according to de Leaon.
"Year 2009 ako lumipad papuntang America. 'Yun lang ang nagsara noon, nung confirmation na ikaw talaga ang tatay ko," she said.
