Why 'Lorenzo's Time' is already ending its run
MANILA, Philippines -- Actress Carmina Villaroel admitted on Tuesday that she is sad that her television series "The Lorenzo's Time" with Zaijian Jaranilla is now on its last three weeks.
In an interview during a press conference for the show's finale, Villaroel said it is not possible to further extend the show despite its high ratings.
"I think kasi ginawa ang soap na hanggang doon lang kaya 'Lorenzo's Time,' may sakit ganoon, so hanggang doon lang. So kahit maganda 'yung reception ng tao at gustuhin man nilang i-extend ay hindi na. At baka kasi kapag in-extend maging corny na or baka masyadong pilit. So maganda na 'yung short but sweet. 'Yung short pero may impact talaga. At least ang message ng show namin ay nailabas na namin. Marami ang natuwa di lang bata... buong pamilya," Villaroel said.
According to soap's director Jerome Pobocan, the management even asked them if they could stretch the story, which was supposed to run for only three months.
"Ang story namin hindi na namin siya pwewdeng i-stretch pa dahil nandoon na, nandoon na 'yung premise namin na magkapatid na naghiwalay. 'Yun 'yung heart ng show. Tapos nahulog sa barko 'yung isa, ngayon nagkakilala na sila. May time bomb kami kaya nga 'Lorenzo's Time,' limited yung oras noong character ng bata ni Lorenzo so we couldn't really stretch it. Actually the management was asking us can you prolong it. Sabi namin wala na po kaming pupuntahan manipis na po 'yung story namin," he explained.
'Sa 'May Bukas Pa' it was different kasi nagkaroon ng journey, naging character based, nagkaroon ng guest na 'yung problema nila 'yun ang sino-solve sa week na 'yon. Kaya nakatakbo yon ng 52 weeks or one year to be exact. 'Yun ang difference mas may leeway kami to play the material, dito wala," Pobocan explained.
The director also believes that the show has already achieved its objectives.
"In terms of telling the story, yes (we have achieved our goals). In terms of a profound love story, in terms of the age gap of Zaijan and Carmina, no matter what the problems are naayos dahil sa pamilya, and yes na-achieve ng show 'yon," he said.
Meanwhile, Villaroel said she is going to miss Jaranilla, who is her youngest leading man.
"Sobra akong nalulungkot at the same time very happy, very thankful kasi nagkaroon ako ng chance to work with Zaijian, the directors and the cast. Kahit konti kami ay masaya at walang problema. Ito lang yata 'yung show ko na from start to end ay walang naging problema," she said.
