'Long journey' ahead for Mikay, says Kathryn

MANILA, Philippines -- "Princess and I" may have reached its climax with the revelation of Mikay's (Kathryn Bernardo) real identity, but the young actress assures there's still a "long journey" ahead for her character and the fans of the no. 1 TV series on primetime.

On Monday's episode of the top-rating series, King Anand (Albert Martinez) is finally made aware that Bernardo's character is the long-lost crown princess of his kingdom.

The seeming happy ending is only the climax of the story, however, as there are still challenges ahead for Mikay, according to Bernardo.

"Malalaman na rin sa campus na ako 'yung princess," the young actress told ABS-CBN News on the sidelines of the filming of an upcoming episode of "Princess and I."

"'Yung mga scenes ngayon namin, ito na 'yung climax, 'yung hinihintay nilang lahat, 'yung revelation, 'yung adjustment ni Mikay sa pagiging princess," she added.

According to Bernardo, Mikay's new experiences as a royal will translate to more episodes of "Princess and I," which has been enjoying five months on air.

"Mahaba pa 'yung journey ni Mikay," she said, when asked if the soap opera is nearing its end.

"Of course hindi lang naman 'yung naging princess siya eh; 'yung buhay niya 'pag princess na siya, and then magsu-shoot kami ulit sa Bhutan," Bernardo added.

Bhutan is the inspiration for the fictional Kingdom of Yangdon, where the characters of Martinez, Bernardo, Enrique Gil and Gretchen Barretto originate.

According to Gil, "Princess and I" will return to Bhutan for its finale.

"Lahat kami excited makita 'yung ending ng show, 'yung finale, a big finale, so pag punta namin doon, we're going to shoot it," he said.

Also starring Daniel Padilla and Khalil Ramos, "Princess and I" airs weeknights during ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block.
