MANILA, Philippines – One suspect was killed in a foiled robbery and hold-up incident in Barangay Samon, Sta. Maria in Pangasinan on Sunday.
Edgar Villanueva and his wife, along with three porters, were on their way to pick up vegetables which they were supposed to deliver that day when three men intercepted their jeep and declared a robbery.
"Nagpanggap sila na lasing [tapos] hinarang yung jeep at nagdeklara ng hold-up," said Police Senior Inspector Quintin Casabar of the Sta. Maria Pangasinan Police.
According to the driver Frederick Maling, one of the suspects pointed a samurai at him while the other suspects were armed with guns.
"Tinutukan ako ng samurai tapos baril sa kabila. Yung amo kong babae, ibinigay na yung pera nung nagpaputok yung mga suspek. Noong nakuha na nila, nagpaputok pa sila,” said Maling.
The suspects, however, were unaware that Edgar Villanueva also had a shotgun with him.
The suspects and Villanueva exchanged fires. One of the robbers, identified only as Ruben, was killed.
The other suspects identified as Joel and Jomar Valerio were later arrested by the authorities. – from a report by Noriel Padiernos, ABS-CBN News Central Luzon
