MANILA – Alex Gonzaga regrets cracking a joke at Luis Manzano's expense during the recently concluded PMPC Star Awards for Movies that supposedly offended some members of the award-giving body.
During the ceremony, Gonzaga asked in jest how much Manzano had to pay to be named Darling of the Press.
Explaining her side, Gonzaga told ABS-CBN News that she and Manzano are very close that their way of affection for each other is to say bad things or jokes about the other.
Nawala lang ako sa lugar, nakalimutan ko na it was an awards show so I apologized right away. I really love PMPC,” she said.
It was a good thing Manzano was also there to explain that she meant no harm, Gonzaga said.
Pero siyempre I am so happy na Kuya Luis was there to help me. Siya din ang nag-explain sa mga press na it was really a joke. I meant no harm. May mga blunders lang talaga,” she said.
Asked what she learned from the experience, Gonzaga said: “Tahimik na lang.
“I’ll just charge it to experience na we have to be careful.
Meanwhile, in his interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” on Tuesday, Manzano reiterated that Gonzaga “did not mean anything by it.”
While admitting the joke was “a bit off,” Manzano said: “Kami ni Alex, ganyan talaga kami maglokohan. We are even worse behind the camera. I completely understand the sentiments, especially the press and the people there na it was a bit off. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not justifying din naman. At the same time, ganun talaga kami maghiritan.”
He then apologized once again to those who were offended by the bad joke.
“On behalf of Alex, sa mga na-offend din na members of PMPC, I would like to apologize na rin. She did not mean anything by it,” he said.
