'Little Champ' to air soon on ABS-CBN
MANILA, Philippines -- Having earned his breakthrough role as the horse-riding Leon Guerrero in the '70s, actor-turned-politician Lito Lapid only sees it appropriate to be paired with a horse anew for his first ever TV series.
"Na-excite ako dahil may kabayo," Lapid told ABS-CBN News, referring to the Kapamilya network's upcoming fantasy series titled "Little Champ."
"Sabi ko, 'Bakit ako kinukuha?' Sabi nila, 'Kasi ang babagay lang sa artistang nakakabayo [ay] ako, kasi nung araw, kasama kong sumikat 'yung kabayo eh," said the senator, who starred at the Pinoy "Lone Ranger" in two "Leon Guerrero" films.
For his return to acting, Lapid will topbill "Little Champ," which features a "superhero" horse as a principal character, as seen in the new teaser trailer released for the series on Wednesday.
"Nagsasalita 'yung kabayo, nag-uusap kaming dalawa. Nagkakaintindihan kami, kasi pag nakalunon ng bato 'yung kabayo -- kasi patpatin siya't payat -- lalaki siya na para talagang superhero siya," Lapid said.
"'Yun talaga ang aabangan, at ang pagligtas sa naaapi at mga taong nangangailangan ng tulong," he added.
Apart from his partnership with the horse, the senator will also portray a father looking for his long-lost son, according to Lapid.
"Ito kasi merong fantasy, may kabayo, may koboy, may comedy, may drama, at napakagaling ni Caloy, 'yung bata. Ang galing nila umarte," said Lapid, who also expressed apprehensions over making a comeback.
"Akala ko hindi na ako makakabalik eh, dahil nagkaka-edad na tayo," he said.
Also starring Mickey Ferriols, Jake Roxas, Coleen Garcia, Lara Quigaman and Renz Fernandez, "Little Champ" is expected to air on ABS-CBN later this year.
