MANILA, Philippines – Actor Cesar Montano revealed he has no plans of running for public office in the 2013 elections.
In an interview with reporters, Montano admitted that several people have been inviting him to join their parties. But he stressed that politics is not part of his immediate plans following losses in the last two elections.
“Hindi muna. Talagang wala akong planong tumakbo. Maraming nagi-invite sa akin, nagsa-suggest na puwede kang tumakbo but wala talaga kasi sa plano ko,” he said.

Montano also denied reports that he will be Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim’s running mate in 2013.
“It’s not a bad idea. Honor sa akin ‘yon na maging running mate ni Lim pero kung ngayon ako tatakbo, papaano ko gagawin ‘yon sa dami ng movie assignments ko?” he said.
According to Montano, he already had the chance to talk to Lim but it was only about a movie project.
“Nag-usap na kami tungkol d’yan sa movie [and] sabi niya ‘yun na muna pag-usapan namin and I respect that,” he said.
Montano said he wants to be ready to serve the public when he ventures into politics. The actor said he also considers his wife, Sunshine Cruz, and his family in his decisions.
“Kailangan nasa puso ko rin at I have my own family already. Siyempre kailangan sasang-ayon ang pamilya ko, siyempre sasang-ayon si Sunshine. Kailangan hindi lang ako, hindi lang ako ang magdedesisyon,” he said.
While he is blunt in saying that he will not run in 2013, Montano said he is not closing his doors to holding public office one day.
“Hindi ko sinasabing I’m closing my doors, puwede pang tumakbo pero hindi lang ngayon, gusto kong gumawa ng pelikula,” he said.
Montano tried his luck in the senatorial race last 2007 but he did not get enough votes to win a seat. He also lost in his bid for governor of Bohol in 2010.
