MANILA - After a string of well-received duets on television, "The Voice Kids" runner-up Darren Espanto will share the stage anew with Jed Madela, this time at the singing champion's upcoming all-requests concert.
Dubbed "All Requests 2," the follow-up to Madela's recent similarly themed show, will be held on September 12 at the Music Museum in San Juan.
Other guest performers, aside from Espanto, include dance duo Xtreme Dancers, who won in the senior division of this year's World Championships of Performing Arts.
Speaking with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe on Wednesday, Madela explained that Espanto was the most-requested guest performer at his upcoming concert.
"Isa siya sa pinakamalaki naming pasabog doon sa show, kasi talagang pinaghandaan namin. Maraming nag-request ng duet sa amin," he said. "Lagi kaming nag-du-duet, pero nabibitin 'yung mga tao, kasi, siyempre, sa TV edited na 'yung mga duets namin."
In recent weeks, Madela and Espanto have performed together several times on TV shows, including "ASAP" and "Kris TV."
"But this time, we're preparing one long production number, a medley of choice songs," said Madela, adding that composer Homer Flores will make the musical arrangement of their number.
'Bilib ako sa bata'
According to Madela, he has been a fan of Espanto since he saw him perform during the Blind Auditions of "The Voice Kids." He likened the 13-year-old from Canada to pop star Sarah Geronimo in terms of stage presence.
Recalling the finals night of the talent search, where 9-year-old Lyca Gairanod was named champion, Madela said: "Noong nalaman ko he (Espanto) didn't win, laking reaction ko do'n. I had to post something on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, which raked in a lot of criticisms din and bashing."
Despite getting negative comments for being vocal of his support for Espanto, Madela stands by what he said at the time.
"Sabi ko, 'You know what, this is a personal opinion.' Magaling silang apat. Everybody had their time to shine and everybody who watched them had their own choices. Ako, ang naging choice ko, si Darren."
"It started from there. Talagang pinanindigan ko 'yung choice ko and I will not apologize for that post. Bilib ako sa bata, eh," Madela said.
The 37-year-old singer said he has since formed a close relationship with Espanto, whom he recently gifted an iPad. Madela added he even had dinner with the boy's family earlier this week.
