MANILA, Philippines – Jillian Robredo, the youngest daughter of the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, may have to say goodbye to her dreams of joining showbiz.
Jillian, who is currently a freshman high school student in Naga City, has said she wants to become an actress someday and looks up to host-actress Kris Aquino for inspiration.
Like her, Aquino also lost her father, former senator Benigno Aquino Jr., when she only 12 years old.
But according to Jillian’s eldest sister, Aika Robredo, it is unlikely that their mother will allow Jillian to join showbiz.
“Sabi nga ni Kris okay kung papayagan siya. Eh hindi ‘yon papayagan ng nanay ko,” Aika said in an interview with ABS-CBN’s Ces Drilon.
In a speech during their father’s wake, Robredo’s second daughter Tricia said Jillian really wants to be an actress.
"Si Jillian gustong mag-artista. Pagkatapos namin malaman na patay na si papa, ang sabi niya kay mama, 'Ma, ilang taon si Kris nang mamatay si Ninoy?' Baka raw puwede siyang maging Kris Aquino paglaki niya," she said.
For her part, Aquino said she is “humbled” that Jillian wants to follow in her footsteps.
In a letter she wrote for Jillian – which she read on her morning show “KrisTV” – Aquino said she would willingly manage Jillian’s career after she finishes high school and if Mrs. Robredo would permit it.
Aquino said it was only after she finished high school when former President Corazon Aquino allowed her to join the entertainment industry.
“And when you’re done with high school, I will be super happy to manage your career – basta payag ang mommy mo,” she told the young Robredo.
