Cannes actress Mercedes Cabral bolts out of bold mold
MANILA, Philippines - Her usual defense is that she couldn’t really be choosy of roles as a newbie.
Hala, hubad, hubad. Hindi ko po ito ginusto,” she exclaimed.
Finally, Mercedes Cabral, named 2008 Cannes International Film Festival Most Beautiful Actress, can heave a sigh of relief when her latest outing, “Gayuma,” is shown in the near future.
After almost three years of being tagged as a sexy actress, daring, baring and exposing her body au naturel, Cabral will be delineated as a straight drama performer in "Gayuma," the newest film of Alvin Yapan, who did “Ang Panggagahasa kay Fe” shown at the Cinemalaya Cinco film festival in 2009.
Puro drama lang, straight drama po,” Cabral said at the 6th Titus Brandsman Short Indie Film Festival at the Titus Brandsma Center in New Manila on Saturday night.
Earlier, her film, “Babae Ako,” produced and directed by young awarded filmmaker Jeyow Evangelista, was screened at the occasion. In that film, Cabral was shown in steamy pumping scenes with co-star and current boyfriend, Marc Jacob.
I don’t want to do such scenes anymore,” she assured.
