MANILA - ABS-CBN on Thursday raised the curtain on its new primetime series "Nathaniel," which centers on a boy who uses his supernatural ability to promote good.
The first teaser of the series premiered at ABS-CBN's trade concert for advertisers, "Kapamilya: All Out," held at the network's studios in Quezon City.
The preview was a sequence featuring "The Voice Kids" champion Lyca Gairanod with ABS-CBN's new child actor referred to only as Nathaniel, who plays the titular character.
At first intending to keep a P100 bill she found on the street, Gairanod decides to return the money to its owner upon Nathaniel's urging. Later, she is saved by Nathaniel from a dog running after her.
In a scene that drew laughs, Nathaniel helps up a smiling Gairanod with Aegis' "Sinta" playing in the background. She then introduces herself by re-enacting a Nora Aunor scene in the 1976 film "Minsa'y Isang Gamu-Gamo."
During her stint in "The Voice Kids," 9-year-old Gairanod was likened to the screen veteran, herself a singing champion, because of her humble background as a junk scavenger and her singing talent.
"Nathaniel" was first announced early this week by producer Dreamscape Entertainment Television in a series of posts on social media.
Aside from Gairanod and Nathaniel, the cast includes Gerald Anderson, Shaina Magdayao, Pokwang, Benjie Paras, Ogie Diaz, Jairus Aquino, Sharlene San Pedro, Jason Gainza, and twins Fourth and Fifth Pagotan.
A premiere date for "Nathaniel" has yet to be announced.
