WATCH: Gabby reacts to Sharon's mid-life crisis
MANILA - Gabby Concepcion on Wednesday expressed support for his ex-wife Sharon Cuneta, who recently admitted in an open letter to her fans that she is "going through one of the lowest times of my life and career."
Speaking with ABS-CBN News' Gretchen Fullido, Concepcion said he is aware of Cuneta's personal struggles through her Facebook post last August 18, but has yet to speak with the entertainment industry veteran.
"Nasusundan ko 'yung Facebook eh, pero hindi pa kami nagkakausap. I hope everything goes well, kung anuman 'yung dinadaanan niya," Concepcion said.
He added: "I hope she figures it out. Mahirap eh, kasi it's very personal."
In her letter, Cuneta apologized to her fans for being complacent and "letting herself become fat," which she said negatively affected her career and her behavior towards her peers.
Explaining she was going through a mid-life crisis, Cuneta added: "Each time I rebelled, often offending other people by being inconsiderate of their time and all else that I used to respect in and about them, I just felt worse and worse about myself."
Concepcion and Cuneta were first paired in the 1981 film "Dear Heart," which led to a real-life romance. They got married in 1984, but separated in 1987. Their marriage was annulled six years later.
They have one child -- actress KC Concepcion.
Cuneta is now married to former senator Francis "Kiko" Panglinan. Concepcion's family with current wife Genevieve Gonzales is based in the United States.
