MANILA – BB Gandanghari is among the latest celebrities to take on the ice bucket challenge, which aims to raise funds for people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Over the past few weeks, donations to ALS organizations have skyrocketed thanks to the ice bucket challenge, where people dare each other to dump ice water on themselves and spread awareness about the condition.
Nominated by his brother Robin and sister-in-law Mariel, Gandanghari shared on Instagram the video of his dare which immediately garnered thousands of likes and comments.
In turn, Gandanghari surprisingly nominated his former wife, Carmina Villaroel, as well as the actress’ husband, Zoren Legaspi, to follow suit.
“I accept the ALS challenge and I nominate, for posterity purposes, Carmina and Zoren,” he said in the video.
Villaroel and Gandanghari tied the knot in 1994, but separated in 1996. Their marriage was annulled in 2002. Gandanghari came out of the closet on television a few years later.
While the two have expressed their willingness to talk to each other, both Villaroel and Gandanghari said their meeting should happen at the right time.
The last time Villaroel and Gandanghari were spotted together was during the 18th birthday celebration of actress Kathryn Bernardo.
Admitting that she felt awkward during that specific instance, Villaroel said she is thankful that Gandanghari did not approach her that night.
"Medyo na-tense lang ako, kasi noong dumating siya parang lahat ng tao nakatingin sa akin, sa amin,” she said.
Villaroel is now married to Legaspi. They have two children, twins Cassy and Mavy.
