MANILA, Philippines -- Singer Zia Quizon appealed to the public not to sensationalize the health condition of her mother Zsa Zsa Padilla, who is due for surgery on Monday in Los Angeles.

In her official Twitter account, Quizon said her mother, who was diagnosed with stage one cancer in the kidneys, is a strong woman.

"There have been a lot of articles reporting that my mother has asked herself 'why me?' in discovering she has cancer. I would just like to say for the record that having been by her side through these trying times I have never heard her say this," Quizon said.

"In fact, she has faced all of these hardships with a can-do attitude and is motivated to do so by all the love and support from her family, friends, and fans. She is one of the strongest women I have ever known and she serves as a good example for Filipino Women," she added.

Quizon then asked the public not to paint a "dramatic picture" of their family's situation, stressing that Padulla is facing her battle not only for herself but for her children.

"Please know that she has no time for self-pity because she understands she has to be strong for her loved ones. We all draw strength and inspiration from somewhere and she chooses for it to come from places of love, peace, and light," Quizon said.

Last week on "KrisTV," Padilla admitted that she is worried about Quizon, who's father, King of Philippine Comedy Dolphy, recently died due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pneumonia.
