MANILA - For the first time since it premiered, the eponymous talk show of Kris Aquino and Boy Abunda was not hosted by either on Tuesday, requiring last-minute replacements for its live telecast.
"Aquino & Abunda Tonight," which debuted in February, was co-hosted for the night by celebrity sisters Toni and Alex Gonzaga.
Abunda recently underwent aspiration for an abscess and will take another week to recover at home, according to Aquino last Sunday.
Toni explained that Aquino, who had been hosting "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" solo for two weeks, was having chills and not feeling well on Tuesday.
Toni and Alex interviewed 16-year-old Maris Racal, who finished runner-up to "Pinoy Big Brother" winner Daniel Matsunaga last Sunday.
Before closing the show, the sisters thanked Abunda and Aquino for allowing them to co-host this time and sent wishes for their recovery.
"We're praying na you could be back tomorrow, and please get well very, very soon. We're praying for both of you," Toni said.
As "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" aired, viewers who were surprised with the appearance of Toni and Alex aired their reactions on social media.
On Twitter, several terms related to the show became top trending topics locally and worldwide, including "Gonzaga Sisters," "Alex and Toni," "A&A Tonight," "Safe and Sound," and "#MarisRacal OnAandA."
