Vilma, Piolo get Aquino siblings' nod

MANILA – Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos and actor Piolo Pascual have the approval of the Aquino siblings to portray their parents – slain former senator Benigno “Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and the late former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino – in the planned Cory biopic.

Producer Star Cinema reportedly wants Santos to play the adult Cory while Pascual will be the young Ninoy.

On her show, “The Buzz,” Sunday, Kris, Ninoy and Cory’s youngest daughter, said she and her sisters – Ballsy, Pinky and Viel – could not think of any other actress but Santos to portray their mom.

They have one brother, Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.

“As it is wala pa naman talagang final. Vilma Santos is Vilma Santos. We really feel she can give justice [to the role],” she said.

On Pascual, Kris said the actor is perfect to play the young Ninoy. Besides, she added, she and her sisters are big fans of Pascual.

“Sabi talaga ng mga sisters ko, ‘wow, gumwapo ang dad.’ But, again, the only thing we can say is we don’t know what will happen to the movie…. [Sana] hindi magkaroon ng gulo or alitan about kung sino dapat ang maging Ninoy, maging Cory. Let’s just wait,” she said, adding:

“I think the rights belong to our family naman kung sinong pipiliin namin and kung sino talaga ang maglalatag ng magandang story. At bigyan kami ng pagkakataon din to listen to everybody.”

Kris also reiterated her family’s gratitude to the Filipinos for giving their parents “so much honor.” She said her family was happy that many people wore yellow clothes last August 21, the death anniversary of her father.
