MANILA - Former Kapamilya star Sandara Park has taken up the ice bucket challenge, the viral social media stunt which aims to raise awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
On her Instagram account, Park, who is part of the popular K-pop girl group 2NE1, posted a video of her getting poured with ice water.
She said it was an honor to participate in the ALS ice bucket challenge.
The Korean star thanked actress-singer Lee Jung-hyun for nominating her to do the challenge.
She hopes the campaign will give strength to those who have Lou Gehrig's disease.
Park then passed on the challenge to fellow singer Im Soo-jung, actor Lee Jun-ki, and her brother and MBLAQ member Cheondoong.
Her entire video message was delivered in Korean.
The ice bucket challenge, which has swept the United States recently, has participants recording themselves getting poured with ice water on the head within 24 hours of being challenged.
The participants can also dare other people to do the same. Those who refuse to do the challenge are expected to donate to the ALS Association in the United States, or any foundation pursuing research on the disease.
However, as it has unfolded on social media, celebrities tagged to do the challenge still make significant donations despite agreeing to take up the dare.
