MANILA - "Ikaw Lamang" actress KC Concepcion assured her mother Sharon Cuneta of her full support, days after the entertainment industry veteran admitted in an open letter to her fans that she is going through one of the lowest times in her life and career.

In a statement given to ABS-CBN News on Thursday, Concepcion said her mother has yet to tell her about the struggles she revealed in a Facebook post early this week.

"Nag-uusap kami ni mom and wala naman siyang na-mention sa akin na problem. Masaya nga 'yung talk namin sa phone noon," she said.

Concepcion surmised that the open letter is Cuneta's way of "letting her fans know that she is still here, and she still cares for them."

"Sa lahat ng ginagawa ng mom ko, she always remembers her fans and wants them to be happy. It's her way of saying she has not forgotten about them," she added.

In her letter, Cuneta apologized to her fans for being complacent and "letting herself become fat," which she said negatively affected her career and her behavior towards her peers.

"I was going through a mid-life crisis, the effects of which I could never have foreseen. My reaction to it was awful; I became rebellious because I hated myself for the way I looked and the time I continued to waste by not focusing and working on bettering my own person.

"And each time I rebelled, often offending other people by being inconsiderate of their time and all else that I used to respect in and about them, I just felt worse and worse about myself. I was not 'me.' I hit mid-life and didn't know how to deal with it. I was lost. And then when I got used to it, I saw what had changed around me," Cuneta said.

Noting that losing weight takes time, Concepcion said her mother not only has her support, but also of their family, fans, and colleagues.

Among those who have openly encouraged Cuneta is actress Judy Ann Santos, her co-star in the 2002 drama film "Magkapatid" and also Concepcion's onscreen rival in the 2013 primetime series "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala."

"Her struggle to get back in shape is a long process, hindi naman gano'n kadaling magpapayat, to be honest," Concepcion said.

"I am very thankful that Ate Juday has always been there for my mom," she added. "Sincere siya sa friendships niya and she's part of our family. Like Ate Juday, me, our family, friends and her loyal fans are all behind her 100%. Kaya niya yan!"
