MANILA - Amid rumors that he is dating a non-showbiz girl, "Talk Back and You're Dead" star James Reid insisted that he is single.
In an interview on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" that aired Thursday, Reid was asked by host Kris Aquino if he is pursuing romantically his onscreen partner Nadine Lustre.
"For now, focused ako sa trabaho ko," said Reid, who is gearing up for a solo album, a TV show, and another film project next year. While he sees Lustre as "a really nice girl," Reid said he is not ready to enter a relationship at this time.
In an earlier interview, also on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight," Lustre readily answered "No" when asked if she and Reid are romantically involved. She said she is happy that they have a close relationship, but emphasized that she would rather focus on her career.
Reid and Lustre, whose tandem is dubbed "JaDine" by their fans, also co-starred in the romantic-comedy film "Diary ng Panget" released early this year. "Talk Back and You're Dead," which premiered last Wednesday, marks the second time they have been paired on the big screen.
Asked by Aquino on his status, Reid said he is single. Apparently not convinced, Aquino then asked the young actor if he was merely told by his handlers to give that answer.
"No," Reid said, "I really am single."
While he cannot say much on his upcoming TV project, the "Pinoy Big Brother" winner said he hopes that it will be aired on ABS-CBN, "because this is where I started."
Like Lustre, Reid is an exclusive talent of Viva Entertainment.
