Actress Beauty Gonzalez.
MANILA – Former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Beauty Gonzalez revealed that she once entertained thoughts of running for public office.
In an interview on the ABS-CBN show “Tapatan Ni Tunying” aired Thursday, Gonzalez said someone asked her to join politics two years ago, back when she was only 21 years old.
She initially found the idea of becoming a politician appealing, but her mother knocked some sense into her.
“I was 21 noong inalok ako. Sabi ng nanay ko, ‘Ano, nahihibang ka na ba?’ ‘Anong nalalaman mo?’ Sabi ko, ‘Mag-aaral ako.’ Sabi niya, ‘Hindi ganoon kadali.’ Tapos na-realize ko, oo nga pala ‘no, hindi ganoon kadali. Tulong na lang ako ng [sa sarili kong paraan], which is much better, na-realize ko,” she said.
Gonzalez said running for public office also meant giving up her Spanish citizenship – she is Filipino-Spanish – and she wants to hold on to what her late father gave her.
Known for her supporting roles in movies and TV shows, Gonzalez got the attention of fans in the Philippines last month after showing up with a significantly slimmer figure in a men’s magazine event.
When asked what motivated her to become fit, the actress said: “Dahil na rin sa trabaho ko. Kasi investment na namin ‘to eh, ‘yung katawan mo, itsura mo. I’m more confident with my body now.”
