MANILA – Actor-host Edu Manzano has resigned as chairman of the Optical Media Board (OMB), a Palace official and his talent manager confirmed Thursday.
Deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez said Manzano cited three reasons for leaving OMB, one of which is to “consider other avenues of public service.”
Manzano also said that he “must attend to personal tasks” and “help in the anti-child pornography campaign,” according to Golez.
He said the actor’s term as OMB chairman expired on March 5, 2007 and that he was only serving on “hold-over capacity.” Golez said Malacañang is now looking for Manzano’s replacement.
In a phone interview with ABS-CBN News, talent manager June Rufino said Manzano submitted his resignation letter to Malacañang on Monday.
Rufino did not say though why the “Game KNB?” game show host left the agency. The talent manager also shot down speculation that the actor resigned because he is planning to seek an elective post in 2010.
Earlier reports said the administration offered Manzano a slot in its senatorial slate but the actor-host never confirmed them.
Manzano, who is currently out of the country, is the second government official to resign this month.
Last week, socio-economic planning secretary Ralph Recto left his post for a possible senatorial bid in 2010. Reports from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News, and ANC
