MANILA – Comedian-writer Ramon Bautista was declared persona non grata by the city of Davao following his controversial “hipon” joke, which he made during last weekend's Kadayawan Festival.
Bautista was among the guest celebrities at the Kadayawan Invasion event held last Saturday at Crocodile Park.
While he was called on stage, Bautista told the crowd, "Ang daming hipon dito sa Davao. Alright!"
“Hipon” is local slang term for a woman who has an ugly face but a sexy body.
On Tuesday, the Davao City Council passed a resolution declaring the comedian persona non grata in the Mindanao city.
According to the resolution, Bautista “willfully and arrogantly intended to propagate a culture of sexist and male chauvinism that promotes rude and disrespectful behavior against women.”
It added that the Women Development Council of Davao City found Bautista’s actions as a form sexual harassment.
Baustista must understand “that as a visitor of a place, he should be mindful of decency and propriety,” the resolution stated.
“There is a need to let the world know and those that employ Mr. Bautista that he is an extremely corrupt influence to the youth and his abusive behavior should not be tolerated,” the resolution added.
Bautista, who wrote the book "Bakit Di Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo," has already apologized for the joke during the same event.
"I am here to say my apologies because sinabi ko na maraming hipon dito. Nahihiya ako sa inyo because you welcomed me in your beautiful city. Nandito po ako lagi at nage-enjoy po ako dito. Para masabi ko ang mga bagay na 'yon na marami sa inyo ang na-offend, I say my sincerest apologies. Sana po ay matanggap niyo," he said on stage.
