MANILA -- Actor Piolo Pascual promised that he won't be a stage father to his only child Iñigo, who is set to make his acting debut in the upcoming "Relax, It’s Just Pag-ibig" under Pascual's movie outfit Spring Films.
"He is a boy. Lalaki 'yon, hindi naman kailangang tutukan 'yon. Hindi naman siya adolescent o toddler na kailangan mong tutukan. He is almost 18," Pascual said on Thursday as he renewed his contract with ABS-CBN.
Although his company is producing the movie, Pascual clarified: "I wasn't on top of it. Hindi ako nangialam. Nagpunta lang ako sa first day."
The "Hawak Kamay" actor stressed that he still wants his son to finish his studies first before joining show business.
"For me, just give me your high school diploma and then you can do anything you want. Sa akin naman. 'yun lang ang importante kaso ang daming opportunities na dumarating," he said.
"It's not something na madaling pakawalan kasi inalagaan mo 'yan, parang bagay 'yan na ayaw mong i-share. I maybe a selfish father pero it's all for his sake. Yun naman kasi ang kailangang gawin. Hindi naman ako madamot na tao para hindi ibigay ang hilig ng bata pero siyempre all I'm asking for is finish high school," he explained.
In the interview, Pascual also reported that Iñigo will no longer be part of a boy band in United States.
"He's not doing that. We are not signing him up because ang laki nang hinihinging oras eh. So, I think he's gonna do home school," he said, adding that it's not that big of a loss.
"For me, mas sayang siguro kung natali siya sa isang bagay na mahirap pakawalan. They are asking for a lot of years," Pascual said.
