In a speech before his employees, Lopez said he is happy to be celebrating a special day in his life with people he has worked with over the last 27 years.
“I’m so happy, this happens only once every 60 years. I can't think of any other place I would rather be than here in the heart of ABS-CBN,” he said.
“I think when you get older in life, you reflect on the things that are truly important and utmost, among which are the people that you work with. Thank you for being with me in this journey over the last 60 years,” he added.
Lopez recently told ABS-CBN employees in a "Chat with the Chairman" that he will be staying on as ABS-CBN chairman after turning 60, the year of retirement of employees.
A mass was celebrated inside the “Umagang Kay Ganda” studio in the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City to mark Lopez’ special day, followed by a short program where some employees presented mini production numbers.
TJ Correa, a representative of the Supervisors’ Union, also cracked some pick-up lines before Lopez.
Below are some of his jokes:
“TV5 ka ba? Kasi gusto kita maging kapatid eh.
“GMA ka ba? Kasi in my heart is where you belong.
“ABS-CBN ka ba? Kasi masarap ka maging kapamilya.”
After the program, Lopez provided meals to all employees of ABS-CBN.
