MANILA -- Anne Curtis told moviegoers to expect a big twist in her upcoming movie "The Gifted," where she portrays a scheming genius at war with a former best friend over a man.
Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of a press conference for the film last Monday, the 29-year-old actress shared her excitement over the nearing premiere on September 3.
In "The Gifted," Curtis' character, Zoe, competes with her best friend and fellow genius, Aika (Cristine Reyes), in academics and later on for the affections of a former classmate (Sam Milby).
An obese student whose parents expect much from her, Zoe undergoes surgery as part of a grand plan to outwit Aika. Not to be outdone, Aika, who describes herself as ugly, also goes through cosmetic surgery to appear more attractive.
According to Curtis, audiences can expect a twist to the story beyond the apparent war of looks and brains between the two lead characters.
Curtis also revealed that she was initially hesitant to take up the project, noting that she and Reyes also portrayed rivals in the 2011 blockbuster "No Other Woman."
However, she changed her mind after reading the script by director Chris Martinez, which she described as "genius" and hilarious.
First announced by producer Viva Films in July last year, "The Gifted" had to be put on hold earlier this year as Curtis and Milby were busy taping the primetime series "Dyesebel," which has since concluded. The movie's last shooting day was on August 9.
