MANILA - "Hawak Kamay" actress Iza Calzado did not appear to think twice when asked if she is ready to get married to her boyfriend of over two years, British-Filipino businessman Ben Wintle.
"Iyon ang tanong! Hindi pa ako ready!" Calzado said during a party hosted by Regal Films Thursday celebrating her 32nd birthday on August 12.
She explained: "Sayang po kasi. Ang dami po talagang pagkakataon, ang daming opportunities na dumarating ngayon."
Apart from the ongoing "Hawak Kamay," Calzado is busy with promotions for the romantic-comedy film "Somebody to Love," which will hit cinemas nationwide on August 20.
Directed by Jose Javier Reyes and produced by Regal Films, the movie also stars Matteo Guidicelli, Jason Abalos, Maricar Reyes, and Carla Abellana.
"Sa tingin ko pag iyong oras na na nasabi ko na, 'Okay, nagawa ko na ang lahat ng gusto kong gawin, for now' -- kasi, siyempre, hindi naman ako titigil sa ginagawa ko, sa pag-aartista ko -- sa tingin ko baka puwede nang magpakasal," Calzado said.
Asked what she still hopes to achieve, Calzado said she will answer the question when she renews her contract with ABS-CBN.
Turning serious, the actress said she is careful not to take for granted the big breaks given her the past year, including the box-office hit "Starting Over Again" and the reality TV series "The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition: Doubles."
"This year has just been amazing," Calzado said. "Sobra akong grateful siyempre kay God, at sa lahat ng mga nagtiwala sa aking kapasidad bilang artista pati host. Sobrang ang daming biyaya na dumarating, na hindi ko puwede basta-basta talikuran."
Calzado added that she intends to maximize opportunities coming her way, before possibly settling down with Wintle in two years.
"At my age, nabibigyan ako ng mga ganitong opportunities," she said. "I really have to grab them and then eventually, I can evolved into something more. Like, maybe, I can think of being a wife and a mother."
For now, the actress said she is happy with her "smooth-sailing" relationship with Wintle, whose personality she believes complements hers. Whereas she is more creative and emotional, Wintle is more laid-back and rational.
"It's been very smooth, because 'yung personality din niya kasi," Calzado said. "Ako 'yung medyo feisty. Artist, eh. Siya kasi, very steady. I think he grounds me so hindi masyadong lipad 'yung utak ko, hindi kung saan-saan pumpunta. It's a good balance. I think it's a good balance."
