MANILA – Billy Crawford was all praises for his girlfriend, Coleen Garcia, after the screening of the latter’s Cinemalaya Film Festival entry “#Y” (read as ‘Hashtag Y’).

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Crawford said Garcia’s performance was noteworthy, adding that he would not be surprised if other people would commend it too.

“I’m so proud of her. First time ko napanood, ang galing niya. Everyone was really good. It’s a really good movie. Kung seseryosohin niya talaga, of course [pwede siya manalo ng award]. She’s a perfectionist, yun ang maganda sa kanya,” he said.

According to the official website of Cinemalaya, “#Y” chronicles the adventures of the members of a generation made universal by the realms of social media, the Internet, sex, drugs and alcohol, and the occasional YOLO (you only live once). Garcia plays a promiscuous woman in the said movie.

Meanwhile, Garcia said she feels overwhelmed that some people think she has a high chance of winning an award for her performance.

“Nakakagulat, definitely very overwhelming. It’s not what I thought when I started portraying the role. I just gave my best and I’m really happy that I’m being recognized by it. I’m so honored,” she said.

Garcia said it helped that she and the other people making up the movie are almost of the same age that all of them got along well so easily.

Asked what it was like watching herself in the movie, Garcia said: “I really felt like I was Janna while I was acting. It helps when you really feel that you are the character. Now that I got to watch it, it feels surreal because it's like I wasn’t watching myself.”

“#Y” is Garcia’s first major acting project.
