MANILA – Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee are not worried that their movie “Once A Princess” will open during the annual Cinemalaya Film Festival and compete with several Filipino films in the box office.

Cinemalaya X will premiere 25 new digital films in the three competition categories, including new movies from veteran stars Nora Aunor and Ai Ai delas Alas.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Gonzales and Dee said they are confident about what their film, which also stars JC de Vera, can offer moviegoers.

“Ako po sobrang gusto ko din na gumagawa ng mga indie movies. Iba naman po 'yung indie sa pelikula namin. May ibang offer din naman kami. Marami silang makikita dito na iba na first time nila makikita from me, Enchong and JC,” said Gonzales.

“Marami po silang dapat abangan," she continued. "After nila mapanood, sigurado akong pag-uusapan nila 'yung buong pelikula, kung ano ba dapat ang ginawa or hindi ginawa, kung ano ba ang tama or mali. May involvement po 'yung audience natin dito talaga.”

Gonzales added this movie is special to her because she and Dee are now more mature compared to the last time that they worked together in a project.

“May mga sensual at daring na scenes dahil kailangan sa eksena. Mas mature dahil 'yung character niya mismo, kailangan mag-mature. Nag-start 'yung pelikula na teenagers kami tapos seven years after, nag-meet kami ulit. Adult na kami, nagtatrabaho, iba na 'yung buhay namin sa dati so malaki yung diperensya talaga,” she said.

An adaptation of the Precious Hearts Romances book by Angel Bautista, "Once A Princess" centers on a popular girl in school, Erin (Gonzales), who toys with the feelings of an awkward would-be scientist, Leonard (Dee).

Unexpectedly, Erin falls in love with Leonard. While the romance is cut short due to a tragic event, the two meet again seven years later. This time, however, Erin is already married.

Dee hopes all the Filipino movies will do well in the box office.

“I would just love to see all the Filipino films na kumita at tangkilikin. I’m a fan of Cinemalaya but at the same time, I’m doing a mainstream movie with Skylight and Regal Films na alam ko kayang makipagsabayan with all the international films and with all the Cinemalaya films,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gonzales also announced that her "ever supportive" boyfriend is sponsoring a block screening of the film.

Directed by Laurice Guillen, "Once A Princess" also stars Matt Evans. It will be released in theaters nationwide on Wednesday, August 6.
