MANILA – Aiko Melendez believes some young stars of this generation do not know how to give respect to showbiz veterans like her.
Melendez, who has been in showbiz for three decades now, said she she experienced this herself when a young actor just stared at her after she introduced herself to him.
In an interview with MJ Felipe and Ambet Nabus on DZMM on Sunday, Melendez shared: “Ako kasi for a time, ‘di ba I was away when I was in politics, so hindi talaga ako updated sa mga baguhang artista. Hindi ko sila kilala. So ako, my way of reaching out is when I see them, I smile at them hoping that I get a smile back and introduce myself.”
“There was this one time, I was just smiling dito sa bagets na artistang ito. So sabi ko sa kanya ‘Hi, I’m Aiko Melendez.’ Tapos wala lang, tinignan lang niya ako. So sabi ko parang, ay okay,” she added.
While refusing to name the young star, Melendez said the incident happened while she was at the ABS-CBN compound.
Asked if she has any message to the young actor, Melendez said: “Pinagdasal ko na lang 'yan. Actually ang prayer ko nga for that guy… basta the bigger star you are, dapat mas humble ka kasi God will bless you more.”
The actress-politician reminded showbiz newcomers that they are only good as their last projects.
