Marquez on Saturday expressed his support and love for Vandolph, turning emotional as he recalled their moments together.
Vandolph is the son of Dolphy with former actress Alma Moreno, who was Marquez's partner for eight years before their marriage was annulled in 2004.
Before he had four children with Moreno, Marquez took on father duties for Vandolph, who would later become a child star with his role as Baldo in ABS-CBN sitcom "Home Along Da Riles."
"Alam mo kasi si Vandolph magmula nu’ng bata, ang misconception ng tao sa kanya spoiled brat, kasi nga malikot," Marquez said, moments after his taped interview with Vandolph aired on "Showbiz Inside Report."
"Iyang batang 'yan, ang akala ko hindi ko magugustuhan, pero nung nakasama ko very, very sweet na bata," he added.
Life with Vandolph
Marquez recalled that Vandolph was very affectionate as a boy. But their bonding proved short-lived. Time came when Vandolph would live with his biological father. And so he would soon yearn for the company of his "son."
"Parating nakaakap, 'I love you' nang 'I love you.' Natutulog 'yan sa dibdib ko eh, gabi-gabi. Ang sarap nu’ng feeling, kaya nu’ng nilayo siya sa 'kin hinahanap-hanap ko 'yan," Marquez said.
Almost a month since Dolphy succumbed to a chronic lung disease, Marquez assured Vandolph that his "dad" still remains to support him and to love him.
Trying to hold back tears, Marquez said: "Kaya hanggang ngayon, sabi ko nga, 'Vandolph, whatever happens, your biological dad may not be here, but rest assured -- I may not be your biological dad -- but I'll try my best to [be a part of your life].'"
"Mahal ko 'yung bata eh," he said.
