MANILA – Although she considers having a baby a blessing, Melissa Ricks admitted she wanted to cry so bad when she first learned about her pregnancy.

In an exclusive interview with Boy Abunda which aired on “The Buzz” on Sunday, Ricks said she was scared about what would happen when she finally decides to tell her parents about it.

“I was just praying na ‘Oh my gosh, just guide me.’ Hindi ko alam kung anong mangyayari. Deep inside, I wanted to cry so bad pero pinigil ko. Kasi I always want to be tough, I try to be strong all the time. In that moment, I knew I had to be strong for the baby,” she said.

Aside from telling her parents, Ricks said she was also worried about how ABS-CBN executives would react to the news considering this would affect her showbiz career.

“It was just really scary. I was scared kung anong sasabihin ng mga tao kasi no one really knew na I was in a relationship. Parang feeling ko nasira yung mga plano para sa akin. Baka ma-disappoint sila,” she said.

Ricks, however, is hoping she could still go back to acting after giving birth, noting that she worked hard to reach where she is today.

“I’m scared kasi it’s going to take probably a year and a half, this whole process. Pero ako I believe na I worked really hard to get this far and I have the talent. Hindi man ako pinakamagaling, I always do my best. Sana pagkatapos ko manganak, I will be back,” she said.

Meet the parents

Meanwhile, Ricks said her boyfriend Charles has already met her father for the first time.

“Nagkita na sila [ng dad ko]. We had dinner sa bahay. First time ko nakita na sobrang tahimik ni Charles. Siyempre nahihiya siya na that was the first time na magharap-harap kami. Siyempre hindi naman biro humarap sa isang ama, lalo na 'yung daddy ko. It turned out well. He was just asking kung anong balak para sa akin,” she said.

As for her mom, the actress said she and her brother could no longer wait to come home to the Philippines to meet her boyfriend.

Now four months and two weeks into her pregnancy, Ricks said she and Charles have already talked about settling down but it is not their main priority as of the moment.

“[My dad] asked if we were getting married. Sabi namin na we talked about it but right now the priority is the baby and how we are going to take care of the baby. Right now, puro where are we going to stay. Tumitingin na kami ng mga bahay, pangalan ng bata kung girl or boy. Right now, we really want a girl but kung boy naman, okay lang din,” she said.

At this point, Ricks said she and her boyfriend are just excited to see their baby.

“I just want the baby to be very proud of me, very proud of her dad. I’m excited to see the baby. I just want the baby to grow up to be a good person, to be happy. Sana ma-provide namin lahat ng kailangan niya. Sobrang laking responsibility talaga but I’m happy na I was blessed with a baby,” she said.
