MANILA - "Hawak Kamay," ABS-CBN's new family drama series starring Piolo Pascual, consistently topped nationwide ratings on its first week, according to Kantar Media.

The prime time series, which premiered last July 21, swept its first five days as the No. 1 most watched show in the country, earning an average rating of 24.6%. Its rival show on GMA-7, on the other hand, averaged 17.7% for the same week.

Last Saturday, "Hawak Kamay" similarly beat its rival program as it aired a rewind special. The ABS-CBN program registered a nationwide rating of 8.2%, compared to its competing show's 7.2% viewership.

"Hawak Kamay" stars Pascual as Gin, a cynical musician who finally finds a purpose in life when he ends up becoming the guardian of three orphans, played by Zaijan Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, and Yesha Camile.

The drama series also stars Andrea Brillantes, Iza Calzado, Nikki Gil, Ryan Bang, Axel Torres, Sofia Andres, and Victor Neri. It is under the direction of Jerry Sineneng, Mae Cruz, and Rechie del Carmen.

"Hawak Kamay" airs weeknights at 7:40 p.m. after "TV Patrol."
