Liza Diño: Our relationship between man, woman

GLENDALE, California – Aiza Seguerra now identifies as a man, according to fiancée, Liza Diño.

Last week, Diño took a short trip to Los Angeles to take care of things related to their upcoming marriage. Aside from holding a ceremony in the Philippines, the couple also plans to have a simple wedding in the United States.

Before they got involved, Diño worked and lived in the U.S.

"It's something that we've both been looking forward to doing soon. We can't shuttle them all in the U.S. We just want to come here kasi dito legal yung same-sex marriage," she said.

The beauty queen-actress said this is the happiest time of her life, adding that she's very proud of Seguerra, who has started identifying as a man.

Seguerra, Diño stressed, has no plans yet for a gender re-assignment surgery.

"Re-assignment, malayo pa ‘yon,” Diño said. “But I think siguro being together and us being in this relationship allowed him to really know kung ano siya. So hindi siya lesbian, transgender siya. I'm not really exposed to these kinds of things until I met him. Kaya sobrang conscious ako kasi it means a lot pala."

Diño: Hindi ako lesbian!

Diño explained that Seguerra thinks it is important to be true to his identity as a transgender. She added that being with Seguerra made her understand her own sexuality and opened her eyes to the issues faced by the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community.

"I'm proud of him for really embracing it now and I think he's a lot happier and I'm very supportive. All the more it validates, I'm a woman, hindi ako lesbian," she said, laughing.

She added: “Ako din, sa sarili ko, it was something that I had to go really go through in terms of asking myself and going through that, 'Ano ba talaga ako because of my relationship with Aiza?' My role in the relationship has always been a woman, a wife. Our dynamics is that of a man and a woman, so I'm happy. I'm happy because I'm a girl!"

“Once you find it, you know. You're just willing to get to the core of it, just knowing that you love the person beyond gender, beyond identity,” Diño said.

Hurt by criticisms

Despite their happiness, Diño lamented that until now, some people still say hurtful things about her and Seguerra, “[tulad ng] manggagamit ako, I'm just using Aiza for money.”

“Of course may mga moral issues -- sinusunog na kami sa impyerno, kami na ‘yung magiging rason ng susunod na bagyo. I know who I am so I don't get affected by those things, although siyempre masakit pa rin kasi I worked so hard to live a life na wala akong tinatapakang tao,” she said.

The couple chooses to focus their attention on the preparations for their upcoming wedding.

“Si Aiza, between the two of us, mas siya yung maraming mga peg sa Pinterest. I picked out the design for my wedding gown. Theme-wise, pareho kami, it's a rustic-themed wedding,” Diño said.

The pair will also perform together on stage during Seguerra's "High on Love" concert tour in the U.S. this September.
