MANILA – Lyca Gairanod, the first-ever grand champion of “The Voice Kids,” could not contain her emotions as she thanked all those who voted for her on the hit talent show.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News shortly after her victory on Sunday nught, the nine-year-old Cavite native said her tears were because she realized that her family can now have a house.
Bibili po kami ng bahay,” she said.
When informed that among her prizes was a house and lot, Gairanod quickly said: “Bibili na lang po kami ng kung anong gusto po ng mga kapatid ko.”
As the grand champion of “The Voice Kids,” Gairanod won a house and lot from Camella Homes, a recording contract with MCA Universal, a P1-million cash prize, a musical instrument package, and a home appliance package, among other prizes.
Clutching her trophy, Gairanod continued to cry but had to compose herself after she was asked to pose for photographers who were eager to take her pictures.
Gairanod’s parents, meanwhile, said they did not expect their daughter to win the competition.
When asked what they will do with Gairanod’s winnings, she said: “Kung ano pong gusto niya.
‘It was her night’
Meanwhile, Sarah Geronimo was a picture of a proud coach after Gairanod’s win.
“Gabi niya kasi talaga ngayon eh. Si Darren (Espanto, her other contestant) sobra talaga siya nag-shine last night with his rendition ng ‘Ngayon.’ Talagang powerful, wow. Sabi niya opo. And it was obvious sa kanyang performances,” she said.
Despite this, Geronimo maintained that any one among the Top 4 finalists deserved to win.
“Sobra talaga akong masayang masaya sa dalawa kong [alaga], sa kanilang lahat, sa kanilang apat. Katulad ng lagi kong sinasabi, deserving silang lahat. Whoever wins among the four, talagang magiging masaya ako.
Geronimo said she was just fortunate to have been the mentor of Gairanod and Espanto, who finished first and second in the competition, respectively.
