"It was a battle royal."
This was coach Lea Salonga's description of the battle round between Team Lea artists Mitoy Yonting and Chien Berbana in "The Voice of the Philippines" on Sunday.
Mitoy and Chien, the fourth battle shown on Sunday, were made to sing "Alone" by the American rock band Heart.
"Excellent. Yun ang goal niyo ay pahirapan ang coach niyo. At tingin ko, nagawa niyo yun," Bamboo Mañalac said.
"Grabe yung pagsisisi ko nung hindi ako umikot sa inyong dalawa," Sarah Geronimo said. "Buti na lang, hindi ako si coach Lea."
Both Geronimo and Mañalac picked Mitoy, citing his experience and vocal range.
On the other hand, Apl.de.ap picked Chien, whom he described as a real fighter.
"At first, when I heard Mitoy came in [and sang], I thought that was it. Pero di sumurrender si Chien," Apl said.
In the end, Salonga picked Mitoy over Chien due to his experience.
"Yung experience mo, it speaks for itself. Pero nakita ko kung paano mo rin inangat si Chien," Salonga told Mitoy.
Despite not choosing Chien, Salonga still praised her because of how she improved throughout the rehearsals.
"Proud ako bilang coach mo. Lahat ng sinabi namin sa'yo ginawa mo. It really was a battle," Salonga told Chien.
All coaches are now in the process of whittling down the number of singers in their respective teams via the battle rounds.
