MANILA – Just for a night, nine-year-old Lyca Gairanod became the fourth member of her favorite OPM band, Aegis, as they performed the classic hit "Basang-Basa sa Ulan" in the finale of "The Voice Kids" at the Resorts World Manila on Sunday.
Wearing a leather jacket and a pair of black boots, Gainarod owned the stage as if it was her concert and matched her idols note for note to a thrilling crowd.
"Lyca, hindi lang pang-grand finals ang performance mo, kung 'di pang-concert mo!" exclaimed Sarah Geronimo after her performance.
Asked what she felt performing with her idols, Lyca said: "Masaya, kasi ngayon ko lang po nakita 'yung Aegis."
During the Blind Auditions, Gairanod made Geronimo turn her chair with a stunning performance of the Aegis classic, "Halik."
Gairanod, who helps her mom to scavenge for a living, went on from winning the heart of her coach to winning the heart of the people with her inspiring story.
In the course of the competition, Lyca earned the title "Little Superstar" as she drew comparisons to the original "Superstar" Nora Aunor.
Geronimo said win or lose Lyca will always be the champion of the masses.
"Lyca, kahit ano'ng mangyari, makuha mo man ang titulo ngayong gabi, ikaw ang grand champion sa puso naming mga masa," she said.
Gairanod went on to become the first "The Voice Kids" champion, topping her opponents Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo and Darlene Vibares.
