MANILA – Lea Salonga apologized on Saturday night over the comments she made during the live broadcast of “The Voice Kids.”
On her personal Twitter account, Salonga said: “Ohhh dear... I offer my deepest apologies to Daniel P and his fans. In building up JK I neglected to think that I might hurt other people.”
During the live show of the talent program, Salonga lauded Team Bamboo’s Juan Karlos Labajo for his rendition of Bruno Mar’s “Runaway Baby.”
“I’m actually looking at you as a 13-year-old and seeing what you’re going to be like five years from now. 'Yung mga DJ na yan, 'yung mga… wala, sorry. Their names are going to be erased once you get to that age," she said.
"Because you are incredibly… kasi ang charm mo talagang nagamit dito sa number na ito. 'Yung looks mo, 'yung charm mo, talagang gamit na gamit na gamit. Your coach picked the right song for you,” she added.
Although Salonga explained that she did not mean to take a swipe at Daniel Padilla, whose nickname is DJ, some of the teen actor’s supporters called on the world-class singer for her comment.
Saying she meant no disrespect, Salonga tweeted: “I humbly ask for forgiveness if that's how it came across. Sana mapatawad po ninyo ako sa aking pagkakamali.”
Salonga is one of the coaches of “The Voice Kids,” along with Bamboo Manalac and Sarah Geronimo.
