MANILA - Actress Julia Montes exited the television series "Ikaw Lamang" in heartbreaking fashion, after her character, Mona, passed away in front of her husband Samuel.
On Friday's episode of the hit show, Mona died right after sharing her final words with her childhood flame, portrayed by Coco Martin.
"Maraming salamat din sa iyo dahil lahat ng pangako mo tinupad mo," she said to Samuel, with whom she had one child.
She went on to tell Samuel that she wishes happiness for him, concluding with the words: "Samuel, pinapalaya na kita."

Several netizens mourned Mona's death on Twitter. The phrase "RIP Mona," along with the characters' names, were quickly among the microblogging site's worldwide trends.
Shortly after the scene, Montes, in a recorded message, expressed her gratitude to all who supported her character and the program.
More than family ang turing ko sa kanila," she added.
"Ikaw Lamang," which stars Martin, Montes, Kim Chiu, and Jake Cuenca airs weeknights after "Hawak Kamay" as part of ABS-CBN's primetime block.
