MANILA - While Erich Gonzales prefers to keep her boyfriend away from showbiz, she stressed that she is proud of him and is at her happiest when they are together.
The 23-year-old actress was asked about her relationship Wednesday on the sidelines of a press conference for "Once A Princess," her reunion movie with Enchong Dee which will hit cinemas on August 6.
The relationship, which Gonzales has managed to keep private for the past four years, has only become more serious, as the actress revealed that she and her boyfriend have started talking about getting married.
She stressed, however, that she is not tying the knot anytime soon.
"Hindi pa nga po siya nag-po-propose! Matagal pa! Napag-uusapan po namin at lagi kong sinasabi, 'Mga 10 years pa.' Kasi marami pa po akong gustong gawin," she said.
Re-thinking her answer, Gonzales clarified that her ideal age to walk down the aisle is 30. "O, sige na nga. Thirty 'yung gusto ko po sana. Mga seven years pa!" she said.
On the possibility that her boyfriend, who is 10 years her senior, might not still be ready by that time, Gonzales quipped, "Wala po siyang choice! Kung hindi siya okay, iba na lang!"
The "Maria la del Barrio" star shared that she has no dream wedding in mind, only that she is crossing her fingers that her boyfriend now will be her groom when the time comes.
"To be specific, 'yung dream ko is makasama siya doon sa wedding," she said.
Asked why she has apparently been secretive of her relationship, Gonzales said this is not the case, noting that she often goes out with her boyfriend. She explained that they only avoid putting him in the spotlight, because he is not used to it.
Gonzales said: "Honestly po, noong naging kami, parang sa akin, wala naman talagang kailangang itago. I'm very proud to have him. At the same time, 'di ba, pag mahal mo naman 'yung tao, bakit [mo naman itatago]?
"Atsaka okay naman kami, lumalabas kami in public. I mean, we eat out, kasama 'yung mga friends namin, ganyan. Pero, siya lang po talaga, respeto sa kanya, kasi 'yun nga, hindi naman po siya artista. 'Yung pamilya niya rin, hindi naman sanay sa mga ganitong ano!"
With "Once A Princess" nearing its release, Gonzales said she now has less time to spend with her boyfirned, who is busy with his own career. Nonetheless, they try to adjust to each other's schedule to be able to spend time together.
"We always find time na makakain sa labas, katulad ng movie, o mag-travel, kasi pareho po kaming busy. Siya rin, may sariling mundo, at ako rin," Gonzales said.
"So every time na magkasama kami, sini-seize namin 'yung time na 'yon, and whenever I'm with him, I'm the happiest."
