'Once A Princess' leading man Enchong Dee. Star Cinema
MANILA - Enchong Dee is not bothered by critics saying his girlfriend is "imaginary," amid his strict preference to keep her identity secret.
The 25-year-old actor was asked about this Wednesday on the sidelines of a press conference for "Once A Princess," his reunion movie with Erich Gonzales, which will hit cinemas on August 6.
Dee first admitted the relationship early this month, but was careful not to divulge details that could hint on his girlfriend's identity.
"It was just, may nagtanong sa akin, sinagot ko lang, and ever since naman, hindi naman ako nagsisinungaling. Hanggang doon lang 'yung masasabi ko," he said.
"She felt good," he added, referring to his girlfriend's reaction to his admission. "Hindi naman sa sinabi niya. I would think na ang pangit din naman kung idi-deny siya. Basta 'yung acknowledgment lang na nandiyan siya."
While he did not go into details about how they met, Dee shared that he got acquainted with his girlfriend during an event he attended after filming scenes for "Once A Princess."
"Doon, nakita ko siya, tapos nagpakilala ako, nagkausap kami, tapos hiningi ko number niya. That's it," he said, careful not to give further details.
He also declined to answer when asked about his girlfriend's age.
No changing 'private relationship'
Explaining why he wants to keep his partner's identity under wraps, Dee said: "My girlfriend is not from showbiz. As much as possible, I protect her from all this."
"As much as possible, I don't want to say it talaga. Ibalato niyo na lang sa akin. This is, by far, my happiest relationship and my most private relationship. I would really appreciate it if we could just stay [that way]," he pleaded.
He also explained that it was both their decision to keep the relationship low-key.
However, Dee said that since his admission, his girlfriend has started to get messages on Twitter criticizing her. He noted that he had not even offered clues as to her identity, and yet she already got her share of "bashers."
"Simula noong na nalaman ng tao, may mga nag-ti-tweet sa kanya, may mga gumagawa ng account to bash her, which I feel bad [about]. Hindi siya sanay sa ganito, eh," he said.
Asked to react to critics who claim that he is lying about having a relationship, Dee said he is already used to having "bashers," and that it is the least of his concerns whether they believe him or not.
"Wala naman akong makukuha kung maniniwala sila o hindi. Okay lang naman sa akin," he said. "Sanay naman na ako. As much as possible, I respect their opinions also."
"Okay lang sa akin, pero huwag lang talaga sa kanya," he added.
