MANILA, Philippines - Box-office director Cathy Garcia-Molina returns to television as she directs ABS-CBN's new series "Precious Hearts Romances: Pintada."
For Molina, TV is where she belongs.
"Actually po malaki ang utang na loob ko sa 'Precious Hearts.' Three years ago when my husband died ito ang tumulong sa akin from my depression when I worked for 'Bud Brothers' (2009). After that nagkaroon ng 'Midnight Phantom' (2010). So dahil love story din siya... malapit sa puso ko ang 'PHR,'" Molina said in a press conference on Monday night for the new show.
"Nagkataon po sa movie wala po akong ginagawa. Eh sinabi po ni direk Lauren Dyogi kung gusto kong mag-direk ng 'PHR.' Umoo naman po ako kaagad and I'm happy to be back," she added.
According to the director, "Pintada" tackles a different kind of love story between a teacher and a student. She said the production has been very careful in handling the story to avoid controversy.
"Kaya po nababaliw na 'yung creative team namin kasi nandoon 'yung premise but we asked techers, we did research, it's not bawal. There's no rule or law but morality dictates bawal. I'm a mother I would never allow my kids na maano ang utak because of sa mga ganito. So, we are very careful kung paano namin ipapalabas," Molina said.
Asked if the show would be sexy, the director replied: "Well medyo ganoon ang 'PHR.' Ganoon ang libro pero sa TV you can not go bold and daring so alalay lang po. Tamed po ako dito."
Molina's last movie was this year's biggest local box-office hit "Unofficially Yours" with Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz.
"Pintada" air weekdays before "Aryana."
