MANILA - Even before she joined "The Voice Kids," 10-year-old Darlene Vibares apparently already had the spunk to go with her talent, going by old videos of her now making the rounds online.
Several videos of Darlene singing have gone viral following her winning performances on the ABS-CBN singing competition, including last Saturday's "I Will Always Love You" which earned her a slot in the grand finals to be staged this weekend.
In one video, which was uploaded in October last year, Darlene is seen giving an energetic rendition of Jessie J's "Price Tag." As in her performances on "The Voice Kids," Darlene, in the video, sings with big gestures and facial expressions.
Wearing a tiara and a princess-inspired gown, Darlene similarly delivers theatrics in a video of her singing "For the First Time in Forever" from the acclaimed Disney film "Frozen."
Combined, the two videos had over 35,000 views, as of writing.
Although a first-timer in singing competitions, Darlene had undergone workshops and performed for friends prior to joining "The Voice Kids." Her dad is a tricycle driver in Antipolo City, where they are based, while her mom is finishing her studies.
Darlene had all three coaches pressing their buttons with her powerful performance of Alicia Keys' "Girl On Fire" in the Blind Auditions.
In The Battles, she was pitted against Mariane Interino and Karla Cruz, two of her closest friends in the competition, as they sang "Firework" by Katy Perry. After giving an impassioned performance of Jennifer Holliday's "And I Am Telling You" in The Sing-Offs, Darlene convinced Salonga to pick her to advance to the semifinals.
On Saturday, Darlene will compete against Team Sarah's Lyca Gairanod and Darren Espanto, and Team Bamboo's Juan Karlos Labajo to become the first winner of "The Voice Kids."
The champion will be named on Sunday at 6:15 p.m.
