MANILA – Jodi Sta. Maria and ex-husband Pampi Lacson have maintained a good relationship for the sake of their only son, Thirdy.
In an interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday, Sta. Maria said the reason they remained friends even after their separation is because they want Thirdy to have a good concept of family while growing up.
“I invited him nga to the [Be Careful with my Heart] concert. Siguro pinag-iisipan pa niya [kung manonood siya]. Maayos kami, salamat sa Diyos, for Thirdy,” Sta. Maria revealed.
In 2007, rumors about their separation surfaced after several people noticed that Sta. Maria was not wearing her wedding ring.
The rumors resurfaced in 2010 when, during her acceptance speech after winning the best supporting actress prize at Cinema One Originals Film Festival, she did not thank her husband.
It was only in March 2011 when Lacson’s father, then Senator and now Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery Panfilo Lacson, confirmed that the two were already separated.
Meanwhile, Sta. Maria said that despite her hectic work schedule, her first priority is always to be a good mother.
“Commitment mo iyan sa at obligasyon mo sa anak mo. Hindi pwedeng ‘Kasi busy ako.’ Hindi siya rason. For example, I know na magiging super busy ako, ine-explain ko sa anak ko na ‘Babe, I will be very busy next week. I hope you understand,’” she said.
But despite her busy schedule, Sta. Maria said she makes it up to her son.
“I communicate with him, I tell him everything tapos he understands naman. I make bawi talaga. He loves to travel so what we do talaga, nag-travel kami States. Two weeks kami nandoon. Sinuyod namin 'yung Disney World. Enjoy na enjoy naman siya. Seeing him happy makes me very happy,” she said.
