MANILA, Philippines -- Actress Rita Avila left ABS-CBN's hit primetime series "Walang Hanggan" because of health reasons, according to her co-star in the show actress Dawn Zulueta.
In an interview during a press conference for her independent film "Ang Nawawala," an entry to this year's Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, Zulueta said Avila had to undergo therapy for her spine problem.
“Ang alam ko, when I asked her about it, she said that she had a problem in her spine and she needed to do more therapy. Because of the hectic schedule of taping, she’s unable to do her therapy regularly," Zulueta said.
"From what I understood, she was coming to work in pain. 'Yun lang ang reason kung bakit umalis siya sa show," she added.
In "Walang Hanggan," Avila played the character of Jane Montenegro, the wife of Marco Montenegro (Richard Gomez), who's still in love with Zuleta's character, Emily Guidotti.
Avila's character, however, died unexpectedly in a plane crash.
On Twitter, Avila thanked all those who continue to support “Walang Hanggan,” promising that the plot will thicken even after the death of her character in the series.
“Abangan niyo pa ‘yung iniwan ni Jane kay Marco. Handa na kayo ng oxygen, pampakalma, chamomile tea,” Avila told her Twitter followers.
Competing with Coco
Meanwhile, Zulueta also shared her excitement over her indie film, "Ang Nawawala," where she plays the role of a dysfunctional mother, who goes through depression after one of her twins died.
“It’s a family drama and it’s appealing to the youth because it has a lot of music,” she said.
Asked how she feels that her movie will be competing with "Sta. Niña, starring her "Walang Hanggan" co-actor Coco Martin, Zulueta replied: “I will watch his film and he will watch mine. Support kami pareho sa isa’t isa.”
