New prosecutor assigned to Tulfo-Santiago case
MANILA, Philippines – The Pasay City Prosecutors' Office appointed a new prosecutor to handle the attempted homicide case filed by journalist Mon Tulfo against celebrity couple Claudine Baretto and Raymart Santiago.
Prosecutor Teresa Purzuelo handled Wednesday’s continuance of proceedings after Prosecutor Orlando Mariano voluntarily inhibited himself from the case.
"Prosecutor Mariano inhibited hiself from this case because he felt that his integrity is being questioned," Purzuelo said.
Atty. Vitaliano Aguirre, who represents Tulfo, was surprised at the Mariano's decision since they were about to file the inhibition case this afternoon.
"Anyway, we will still file the inhibition case, just to go for the record," Aguirre said.
Lawyers representing Barretto and Santiago said they were not affected by the change in prosecutor.
"Wala naman kaming nakikitang epekto. Anyway we feel that our clients will be acquitted," said Atty. Herbert Matienzo.
