MANILA -- Sarah Geronimo, who was also a product of a singing contest, had a hard time picking the top two contestants among the six kids in her team.
On the Sunday episode of "The Voice Kids," Geronimo eventually chose Lyca Gairanod for her sensitivity, and Darren Espanto for being ready to be in the competition.
All three coaches have been impressed with Gairanod, the 9-year-old girl who joined the competition to help her parents. During the Battles round, she was even compared to veteran actress and recording artist Nora Aunor after her performance of "Isang Lahi."
For the Sing Offs, Gairanod sang the Tagalog version of Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father," which once again impressed the coaches.
"Nabigyan mo ng kuwento 'yung kanta. 'Yung umpisang verses, 'yung stanza, 'yung tone mo, relax na relax lang 'yung pagkanta mo. Lumalabas lang ang kulay ng boses mo. Tapos kapag umangat ka, and as you take it home, the prize, you did it," Bamboo said.
He added that the young singer only made it more difficult for Geronimo to choose her top two contestants.
Congratulations!" Geronimo said.
Salonga also praised Garainod for being true to herself.
Espanto, who sang Beyonce's "Listen," was also praised by the three coaches.
"This is just my opinion, you don't really need this competition to make it, because you're ready anyway, that's pretty much it," Salonga said.
Bamboo also chose Espanto for being the "complete package."
"I liked you from the start, and I congratulate you," he added.
Geronimo said she chose Espanto because she believes he is already prepared to defend his place in the competition.
But before revealing her choices, Geronimo left a message for all the contestant who are part of her team.
Maraming salamat sa tiwala niyo sa akin," she said.
Geronimo went on to hug all the other contestants, telling them to always remember what she said.
Gairanod and Espanto, who won over teammates Earl Consolacion, Kyle Bernido, Gab Gomez, and Diana Agustin, are the last two contestants to complete the show's Top 6 who will compete in the semi-finals.
Team Bamboo is represented by Edray Teodoro and Juan Karlos Labajo, while Team Lea is represented by Darlene Vibares and Tonton Cabiles, Jr.
All six contestants will compete in the live semi-finals starting next week.
"The Voice Kids," hosted by Luis Manzano and Alex Gonzaga, airs Saturdays at 6:45 p.m. and Sundays at 7:30 p.m.
