However, she said this doesn’t make her less excited to perform before her fans.
“I don’t know what to expect at the show. I don’t know what the songs they know. I’m experiencing it all for the very first time,” she said during her press conference at the Diamond Hotel in Manila on Wednesday.
Minaj said she is totally clueless about the Filipino culture as well, but she finds everyone she’s met so far very hospitable.
“I’m honored to be here. I don’t have any Filipino friends... I said Filipino in a lot of my rap songs but I was just singing it. So far, the people here were really really warm and welcoming when I got in the airport. The people are just so sweet, warm and friendly,” she said.
Asked how she manages her fame and success, Minaj said: “I don’t know if there’s ever gonna be a way to manage it but I always maintain my alone time so I can think and meditate. I always want to have my own moment to focus, then to the show and then come back to myself.”
Minaj also has a piece of advice for young girls who look up to her as a fashion icon.
“I would say that there’s always someone out there who finds you attractive and most importantly, you have to find yourself attractive and you need to have confidence. To younger girls, I don’t think that your goal is trying to be attractive anyway. I think you should be going to school and going to college,” she said.
Minaj is here in the country to stage her concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, July 11, the only Southeast Asian leg of her Pink Friday Tour.
