MANILA - If Jay R had his way, he would be a Kapamilya.
The R&B performer, whose real name is Gaudencio Sillona, was asked Wednesday on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" whether he has already transferred to ABS-CBN, following his recent stint as a guest judge on "It's Showtime."
He answered: "Well, actually, the question is gusto ba ng ABS? Kasi, you know, I would love to para maiba naman, 'diba?"
Jay R, whose contract with GMA-7 reportedly expired in June, appeared to give a hint of his involvement with the Kapamilya network when he took to Facebook in April to survey the preference of his fans.
On his official page on the social networking site, Jay R asked if he is more suited to ABS-CBN's "ASAP" or GMA-7's "Sunday All Stars," where he was a regular performer.
During his interview on Wednesday, Jay R also confirmed that he almost transferred to ABS-CBN seven years ago -- a topic brought up by co-host Kris Aquino.
Explaining why it didn't push through, Jay R said: "Well, that was the whole business side na nangyari na medyo I let Arnold (Vegafria, his manager) take care of, kasi siyempre 'yung usapan na business, I stay away na. I take care of the creative side nalang."
With a possible network transfer in the horizon, Jay R said he would still prefer to stick to his signature genre, amid a trend of jack-of-all-trades performers in the music scene.
"At first, nung bagong dating ako dito (from Los Angeles), a lot of people were saying na R&B isn't masa, na hindi mag-wo-work, but you know, from my experience, it worked for me.
"It gave me my own little niche and I just worked with that. Passion ko talaga, eh. I love it, R&B," he said.
