MANILA - With a little over a week left before the film "She's Dating the Gangster" heads to the cinemas, teen stars Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo teased fans on what to expect from their "most serious" film to date.
Speaking to reporters at the movie's grand press conference on Friday, both Padilla and Bernardo shared how the film has helped them "mature" in terms of their acting and how different it is from their past outings.
"Sobrang layo niya sa mga pelikula namin dati. Ito na rin siguro 'yung pinakamalaki, pinakaseryoso, at sa lahat, pinaka-mature po," Bernardo said.
The two also vowed that their fans will not leave the cinemas disappointed, with Padilla describing the film as one that he is extremely proud of.
"Ibang iba eh kasi kumbaga, dito kami nag-mature ni Kathryn. Siguro ngayon ako nag-effort ng sobrang sobra sa isang movie," Padilla added. "Masasabi kong proud ako sa movie na 'to. Ang dami naming natutunan."
In the film, Padilla plays the role of Kenji, a "gangster" who attempts to win her former girlfriend back by entering a pretend relationship with Bernardo's character, Athena.
The film, which is based on the bestselling book Bianca Bernardino, is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, who previously worked with the rumored couple in the hit television series "Got to Believe."
Garcia-Molina explained that they had to tweak parts of the book to cater to a wider audience, saying that the changes were "needed".
She also added that the team made a conscious effort to try and veer away from the negative connotations that the word "gangster" bring with it.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 16.
